How the dominant planet ranking works
Every major planet starts from the same baseline and earns weight for chart emphasis: angular houses (1st, 4th, 7th, 10th), rulership of your Sun, Moon, or Rising sign, close aspects to other planets, and a small adjustment for retrograde motion. The highest total is your dominant planet — the energy your chart routes through most naturally.
Dominant sign vs signature sign
This calculator gives you both, because they answer different questions. Your dominant sign is a weighted tally: the dominance score of every planet flows into the sign it occupies, plus an angular-grade weight for your Rising sign. Your signature sign is a derivation: count which element (Fire, Earth, Air, Water) and which modality (Cardinal, Fixed, Mutable) lead your chart, and the sign that combines them is your signature. The two often differ — and that contrast is usually the most revealing part of the reading.
The 12 signature signs
Cardinal Fire is an Aries signature, Fixed Fire is Leo, and Mutable Fire is Sagittarius. Cardinal Earth is Capricorn, Fixed Earth is Taurus, and Mutable Earth is Virgo.
