Free Chiron return calculator: the exact dates of your Chiron return and every milestone before it, solved from the Swiss Ephemeris — plus what each one asks of your healing.
From your birth date, time and place it finds your natal Chiron by sign, degree and house, then solves every exact pass of transiting Chiron over that degree. You get the date of each pass, your age at the first one, the first-to-last span, and the three turning points before the return (waxing square, opposition, waning square) with every retrograde pass of each. Positions come from the Swiss Ephemeris. Nothing is read from an age table, because for Chiron an age table is wrong for most people.
We ran 1,528 births, one every eleven days from 1940 to 1985, through the same engine as this calculator and recorded the age at the first exact pass.
Chiron turns retrograde for about five months of every year. If your natal degree sits inside that loop, Chiron crosses it going forward, again going backward, and a third time going forward.
Chiron's orbit is stretched, so it crawls through some signs and sprints through others. Where it crawls, the retrograde loop keeps coming back to the same degrees. Share of returns by number of passes, by natal Chiron sign:
Chiron is at the end of Aries and the start of Taurus, so the people returning now were born in the mid to late 1970s, when it was last there. At least one exact pass falls in 2026 for births from late May 1974 to early April 1977, in 2027 for births from late May 1975 to mid April 1978, and in 2028 for births from late May 1976 to mid April 1979. The ranges overlap because most of these returns have three or five passes spread over ten months or more.
The full return barely varies because one orbit is one orbit. The quarter points are another matter. Someone born with Chiron in Aries waits for it to cross three slow signs before the waxing square, which can take more than twenty years; someone born with Chiron in Virgo reaches the same square in about five. Two people born a few years apart can meet the same milestone a decade apart, which is why this calculator solves your dates instead of quoting an age.

Treat the window as scheduled inner work and not as an ambush. If you have three passes, the first usually raises the theme, the retrograde pass brings it back for a second look, and the last closes it, so decisions made in a hurry at the first pass are often revisited. One birth every eleven days at 12:00 UT from 1 January 1940 to 31 December 1985, 1,528 in all. For each, the natal Chiron degree was computed and every exact pass of transiting Chiron over it between ages 46 and 55 was solved with the same crossing solver this calculator uses. Births were treated as evenly spread in time. The grid is fixed, so rerunning the script reproduces every figure on this page. The years Chiron spends in each sign come from a daily sweep of one full orbit.

In 1,528 births we ran through the same engine, the first exact pass landed between age 48.5 and 50.9, with a median of 50.1.
About 50. In our census 80% of first passes fell between age 49.3 and 50.8, fewer than 1% came before 49, 40% came between 49 and 50, and 59% came at 50 or later. It barely varies from person to person because one full orbit takes the same 50.4 years wherever it starts; what varies is how many passes you get.
Usually three. 70.7% of returns in our census had three exact passes (direct, retrograde, direct again), 22.0% had a single pass and 7.3% had five. It depends on where Chiron turns retrograde relative to your degree, and that depends heavily on your natal Chiron sign.
A single-pass return is one exact day with a few weeks of build-up on either side. When there are several passes, the median time from the first exact pass to the last is 300 days, about ten months, and the longest we found was 593 days, about nineteen months. The calculator shows your own first and last dates.
Solved from the ephemeris: at least one exact pass falls in 2026 for people born between late May 1974 and early April 1977, in 2027 for births between late May 1975 and mid April 1978, and in 2028 for births between late May 1976 and mid April 1979. All of them have natal Chiron in Aries or Taurus. Your own dates depend on your exact degree, so run the calculator.
It changes the shape. A Chiron in Aries, Taurus or Pisces never returned in a single pass in our census: about 80 to 90% had three passes and the rest had five. A Chiron in Virgo, Libra or Scorpio returned in one clean pass about 85% of the time. The reason is speed: Chiron spends 8.3 years in Aries and only 1.7 in Libra, so its retrograde loop covers slow degrees again and again and skips past fast ones.
The wound that has followed you since childhood completes its first full lap. Astrologers describe old hurts resurfacing for a last round of integration, a reckoning with how you have carried pain, and, when it is worked with, a turn from carrying the wound to being able to guide others through the same ground.
Three. The waxing square, when the wound first asks to be seen; the opposition, when it faces you through other people; and the waning square, when old coping stops working. Their ages vary enormously because Chiron's speed varies: the waxing square can land anywhere from about age 5 to 23. The calculator dates all three for your chart.
No. The transits astrologers link to midlife come earlier: the Neptune square at about 40, the Uranus opposition between 40 and 44, and the Pluto square, which for people now in midlife arrives between about 38 and 42. The Chiron return comes at about 50 and is read as the chapter after midlife, about what you do with what you have learned.
Yes. Chiron moves so slowly that the time of day shifts your natal degree by only a few arc minutes, which usually moves a pass by no more than a few days. The calculator casts a noon chart and still dates your passes; it leaves out the house your Chiron sits in, which does need the time.
At about age 100 to 101. Far more relevant are the milestones of the second lap, which begin with a second waxing square somewhere between your mid fifties and your early seventies, depending again on how fast Chiron was moving when you were born.
Each pass is solved from the Swiss Ephemeris by stepping through the window and bisecting to within about ten seconds, then shown to the day. Your local birth time is converted with the timezone of your birthplace, including daylight saving on that date. If the sweep is unavailable, the page says so and shows only a mean-orbit estimate of the return, marked as approximate.
