Astrologers reserve the Yod for a precise geometry: two planets working smoothly together through a sextile, each thrown into permanent adjustment with a third planet through the quincunx, the aspect of "almost". The apex planet receives both quincunxes, and because the quincunx never resolves into either harmony or clean conflict, the pattern behaves like a standing instruction to keep adjusting. That is why traditional astrology nicknamed it the Finger of God: charts that carry one tend to describe lives with a recurring redirect toward whatever the apex planet rules.

Because the quincunx orb is tight, real Yods are uncommon, and many charts that "feel Yod-shaped" are actually near-misses. A Yod, also called the Finger of God, forms when two planets in sextile (60°) both make a quincunx (150°) to a third planet. That third planet is the apex, and the whole pattern points at it. Traditionally it reads as a fated adjustment: the two base planets cooperate, the apex never quite fits either, and life keeps course-correcting you toward the work the apex planet describes.
It computes all ten major planets from your exact birth details with Swiss Ephemeris, then checks every three-planet combination for the formal recipe: a sextile within a 4° orb plus two quincunxes within a 3° orb. If the shape is present only when orbs are widened by up to 1.5°, it reports a near-Yod and says so plainly rather than calling it formal.
A Golden Yod is built from quintile-family aspects (72° and 144°) instead of the sextile and quincunxes of a classical Yod. This checker detects classical Yods only; a Golden Yod will not register here, so a "no" from this tool still leaves quintile patterns unexamined.
