How do I know if I have a day or night chart?
Look at where your Sun sits. If your Sun is above the horizon — in houses 7 through 12 — you have a day (diurnal) chart led by the Sun. If your Sun is below the horizon in houses 1 through 6, you have a night (nocturnal) chart led by the Moon. This calculator checks it automatically from your birth date, time, and place, and names your sect light by sign and house.
What do 'in sect' and 'out of sect' actually mean?
Each planet belongs to the day team (Sun, Jupiter, Saturn) or the night team (Moon, Venus, Mars). When a planet's team matches your chart's sect it is 'in sect' — steadier, more constructive, and easier to work with. When it doesn't match it is 'out of sect' and tends to express in a rawer, more disruptive way that rewards conscious management. Mercury is neutral and simply takes on your chart's sect.
Which planet in my chart should I watch most?
The one to manage most is your out-of-sect malefic: Mars in a day chart, or Saturn in a night chart. It runs against your chart's natural grain, so under stress it's the placement most likely to act up. But once you name it and work with it consciously, it often becomes one of your quiet strengths. The calculator names yours by sign and house, alongside your in-sect benefic — your easiest source of grace.
